SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – The second day of the St. Mary's College Classic saw the Regis University softball team suffer loss number two on the season as they fell 1-0 to Texas A&M University-Kingsville in San Antonio, Texas.
How it Happened: The Rangers struggled to find offensive production against TAMUK with the first six batters retired on four strikeouts and a pair of pop-ups.
The Javelinas took advantage of Regis' slow start and laid down a sacrifice bunt in the top of the third to bring home a run and take the 1-0 lead.
Feeling the pressure,
Carly Beard stepped up to the plate and drilled a double to right field for the Ranger's first hit of the contest. However, it was followed by a strikeout and groundout, leaving RU unable to convert.
The Javs threatened again in the top of the fourth, advancing to third off a sac bunt. Despite their scoring lull, the Regis defense was in full force, closing out the inning unscathed. The Rangers failed to yield another hit in the remaining innings but would give up two to A&M-Kingsville before falling 1-0.
Game Notes: Regis held TAMUK to their fewest runs plated on the season, and allowed just six hits for the Javs. Beard picked up the lone hit of the game while
Maisie Mortimer finished with three strikeouts through seven innings in the circle.
Analece Apodaca collected 11 putouts while
Tori Brown and
Allisha Martinez both added four assist.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis picks back up tomorrow afternoon with Tarleton State University at 1:30 PM followed by Texas A&M University-Commerce at 3:45 PM in San Antonio, Texas.
