Regis Routed 9-3 by Tarleton State

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – The Regis University softball team falls to 0-3 on the season after taking a 9-3 loss in five innings this afternoon to Tarleton State University in day three of the St. Mary's College Classic held in San Antonio, Texas.

How it Happened: After one frame of action, both teams were held to no runs and no hits. Regis found their bats in the second inning as Maisie Mortimer drilled a shot to center field before Carly Beard singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. With two outs, however, the Rangers had little wiggle room and would end the inning with the pair left on base.

The next two frames saw the Texans retire six straight batters before going on a nine run scoring stretch in the bottom of the fourth.

Regis did not fall without a fight, however, and pulled together three runs in the top of the fifth. Michelle Larose kick started things after earning a base on balls to bring up Liberty Justus who drove a single to right center. Shelby Shepherd stepped up to the plate next and took her own base on balls which put Analece Apodaca in the batter's box. Conscious of the two Ranger outs, Apodaca smacked a double straight to the hole in center field, bringing around Larose, Justus, and Shepherd.

Despite gaining momentum late in the contest, RU failed to send more rounding the bases and fell 9-3.

Game Notes: Regis finished with just one error and six allowed hits. In the circle, Taylor Armitage collected two strikeouts while giving up six runs on three hits after facing 17 batters.
Carly Beard recorded a game-high four putouts. Armitage led the team in assists with two.
