Rangers Close Out Regular Season with 70-44 Victory over Colorado Christian On Senior Night

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team (16-11, 12-10 RMAC) honored and bid farewell to their five seniors Friday evening as they cruised past Colorado Christian University (13-15, 11-11 RMAC) 70-44 in their final regular season game at the Regis Field House.

How It Happened: After suffering a loss in their conference-opener to CCU back at the beginning of the season, Regis was on the hunt for a redemption victory tonight. They spent most of the first half wrestling the Cougars for control of the contest. Behind an eight-point run strung together by Jaz'Myne Snipes, Shelby Espinosa and Emma Sterkel, the Rangers led 12-10 going into the second quarter.

A 9-2 Regis run opened the second period, giving way to a 21-12 lead for the home team with 6:17 on the clock. Whitney Jacob finished out the quarter in high gear, netting six of the Rangers' 11 points to keep a 12-point difference between the two teams heading into halftime.

Following the break, it was all Regis. RU outscored Colorado Christian 11-6 in the third period before crushing them by a margin of 25-15 in the final period of play.

Nine different Rangers scored in the fourth quarter, including all five seniors, Tamara Brcina, Majestie Robinson, Espinosa, Alex Nelson and Morgan Ducklow. Despite their efforts, the Cougars failed to yield the outcome they wanted as Regis prevailed with a 70-44 win.

Game Notes: RU was paced by Jacob who finished with 14 points on 6-for-13 shooting and six rebounds. Robinson cashed in 12 points, three assists and two steals while Snipes tallied 11 points behind 5-of-10 shooting. Sterkel netted 10 points as Nelson came away with seven points, six rebounds, two steals and one block. Espinosa pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds in addition to her six points.

Regis shot 45.2% from the floor, going 28-for-62. They finished with 72.7% at the free-throw line and out-rebounded the Cougars 45-26. The Rangers limited themselves to seven turnovers while forcing CCU to commit 10.
