DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team (9-6, 6-3 RMAC) completed the weekend sweeping Chadron State College (5-16, 2-9 RMAC) 6-3 and 8-3 in Sunday's doubleheader games.
Game One | How It Happened: It was the
Morgan Stradley show in game number one as she led the Rangers to a 6-3 victory over the Eagles with a pair of homeruns and five RBIs.
Chadron opened the scoring in the first inning, bringing home a pair of runs off a double to right center field. The Rangers responded with a run from
Kynra Nelson in the next frame but struggled to make contact until the fifth inning when Stradley ripped a 2-run homer past the left field fence to put Regis on top for the first time in the game.
In the top of the seventh, CSC countered with a game-knotting third run. With one out and two runners on bags, Stradley had an answer in the form of a 3-run dinger to center field, sealing the RU win.
Game Notes: Stradley finished 2-for-4 at the plate, notching five RBIs as well as three putouts and three assists. Nelson tallied two runs while
Allisha Martinez and
Jessi Case both added one run each.
Macy Cox totaled a team-leading seven putouts while
Carly Beard added six and Martinez collected three.
In the circle,
Taylor Armitage picked up the win, allowing three earned runs while striking out five through seven innings of work.
Game Two | How It Happened: The Rangers continued to roll in the night cap, recording a run in the bottom of the first off a
Tori Brown single that scored Nelson for 1-0 start.
Regis added two more runs in the third inning as
Analece Apodaca went yard with a two-run homerun. The Eagles produced their first run in the following inning but was immediately answered by
Laura Scheffel and her two RBI homer to right center.
Scheffel continued to swing the bat well, garnering another set of RBIs off a single back to right center before Martinez squeezed out an eighth and final run for RU, securing the two-game sweep.
Game Notes: Armitage stayed in the circle for Regis in game two, earning three strikeouts while giving up just one earned run through 25 faced batters.
Scheffel went 2-of-3 in the batter's box, recording two runs and four RBI's while Apodaca finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Cox collected seven putouts in addition to her two runs as Armitage notched five assists.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis is back at work next weekend with a home four-game series against Colorado Christian University. The double-header on Saturday, March 16 will kick-off at 12:00 PM followed by a second pair of games on the 17th, beginning at 11:00 AM.
