DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team fell victim to a pair of losses this afternoon by Colorado Christian University, 9-4 and 11-1, at the Regis Softball Field.
Game One | How it Happened: The Rangers set CCU back by a quartet of runs in the first frame as
Analece Apodaca put ducks on the pond for
Tori Brown who brought home a pair of runs following a stand-up double down the right field line.
Laura Scheffel made the score 4-0 on a hard hit ball back to the pitcher that triggered several miscues from the Cougars, allowing two more runs to cross home plate.
Regis fell silent through the next six innings, collecting just two more hits in the contest. Colorado Christian, on the other hand, went on to earn one run in the third inning before racking up another eight unanswered runs to finish with a 9-4 victory over the Rangers.
Game Notes: Allisha Martinez,
Morgan Stradley, Apodaca and Brown all recorded one run apiece while Brown notched a team-high two RBIs on 1-of-3 batting.
At first base,
Macy Cox tallied eight putouts while Brown added three assists. In the circle for RU,
Taylor Armitage recorded six innings of work with eight earned runs and three strikeouts.
Game Two | How it Happened: Despite jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Rangers were held to just two hits in the run-rule shortened game.
Following a double at the bat of Stradley to send
Kynra Nelson rounding the bases, Regis struggled to make contact.
The lack of offensive production gave way to a CCU scoring frenzy, allowing one run in the second before they tallied a total of 10 runs between the third and fourth frame for an 11-1 advantage.
Starter
Maisie Mortimer pitched 3.1 innings in the loss, allowing 11 earned runs with one strikeout.
Game Notes: Nelson and Stradley wrapped up the hitting for RU, notching the Rangers' only two hits.
Apodaca earned seven putouts at first base while Brown tallied five assists from third.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will now embark on an eight-game road stint, that will first take them to Colorado Springs, Colorado for a three-team pod series with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Fort Lewis College next weekend. First pitch with UCCS is set for 10AM on Saturday morning followed by a 12PM start with FLC.
