DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team (7-5, 4-2 RMAC) suffered a pair of losses this afternoon as they hosted Chadron State College (5-14, 2-7 RMAC) at the Regis Softball Field. The Eagles took game one 7-9 before routing Regis 14-5 in the nightcap.
Game One | How it Happened: The Rangers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first frame of play against CSC as
Morgan Stradley went yard for a 3-run homer over the left field fence. The visitors quickly equalized in the top of the third, notching three runs and as RU tallied as many errors.
Despite regaining a 5-2 lead off a
Tori Brown solo homerun and
Kynra Nelson RBI bunt in the bottom of the third, Regis continued to be plagued by mistakes. A fielding error in the top of the fourth gave way to another Chadron run before three more Eagles rounded the bases.
The Rangers, not completely out of the fight, managed to garner another pair of runs in the sixth from an
Analece Apodaca single to right center and
Tori Brown double placed in center field, knotting things at seven apiece. With the pressure on, CSC came up big though, retaliating with two runs before holding off the Ranger offense to take game one 9-7.
Game Notes: Nelson led RU, going 4-for-5 at the plate, recording one run and one RBI. Brown followed with three hits, one run and two RBIs while Stradley knocked home a team-best three RBIs after going 1-of-4 at bat.
Taylor Armitage took the loss for Regis, allowing just one earned run while striking out three.
Game Two | How it Happened: Coming off their first conference win, Chadron came out explosive against the Rangers in game two, recording 12 runs in the first three innings.
Carly Beard woke Regis up in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to 7 after knocking a dinger out of the park and bringing four RBIs with it. However, that would conclude the scoring for RU, as both the fourth and fifth innings were quiet while Chadron State earned two more runs to enforce the mercy rule and cap the contest 14-5
Game Notes: Beard finished 2-for-2 at the plate, with a team-leading four RBIs.
Allisha Martinez and
Macy Cox both recorded one hit each.
Maisie Mortimer picked up the loss for the Rangers after putting in two innings of work and allowing seven earned runs.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis looks to bounce back and split the four-game series with Chadron State tomorrow for the remaining two games. First pitch is 11:00 AM.
