Softball Cruises Past CSU-Pueblo 10-2, Falls to Mesa in Nightcap

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University softball team (13-20, 10-16 RMAC) split the day in Grand Junction, knocking off Colorado State University-Pueblo (10-24, 9-21 RMAC) 10-2 before dropping an 11-0 five inning decision to Colorado Mesa University (35-6, 28-3 RMAC).

Game One | How it Happened: Regis opened the twinbill with a dominate 10-2 six-inning win over Colorado State University-Pueblo in which nine different Rangers clapped home plate.

The ThunderWolves started the scoring in the fourth inning with a pair of runs to which Regis immediately responded to. With two outs, Carly Beard and Analece Apodaca both singled through the left side to bring up Michelle Larose who went yard and unleased a three-RBI dinger to left field. Laura Scheffel added a fourth run after tripling to left and taking advantage of a CSU-Pueblo fielding error.

In the fifth, Larose drew a walk with bases loaded to score Morgan Stradley while Allisha Martinez notched a run on a fielder's choice. Liberty Justus contributed to the scoring frenzy with an RBI single that brought home Apodaca.

Regis sealed the victory in the sixth inning as Jessi Case, Cortney Sexton and Tori Brown all took turns making their way home.

Game Notes: Apodaca went 3-for-3 in the contest, garnering a game-high two runs. Larose paced all hitters with six RBI off two hits, including a double and a homerun.

Macy Cox tallied a team-best seven putouts. Taylor Armitage threw all six innings, reaping two strikeouts while giving up no earned runs.

Game Two | How it Happened: The Rangers were again held scoreless and hitless by the Mavericks, taking an 11-0 five-inning loss in the nightcap.

Regis blanked Colorado Mesa in the first inning and allowed them no hits while CMU stranded one on base. In the second, a pair of fielding errors from RU proved to be costly and the Mavericks capitalized to score a trio of runs.

The advantage grew to 7-0 in the third frame as Mesa collected a two-run homer before a third fielding miscue from the Rangers resulted in another run. CMU wrapped up the inning with an RBI single up the middle to total four runs in their outing.

The bottom of the fourth saw another quartet of Mavericks round the bases on a pair of singles and a double. In their last attempt at bat in the top of the fifth, Regis was unable to connect.

Game Notes: Taylor Armitage was saddled with the loss, recording two innings of work and five earned runs. Maisie Mortimer came in as relief and allowed four earned runs while walking one before Cortney Sexton closed the contest with two walks and the pitching crew's lone strikeout.

Macy Cox and Stradley both tallied three putouts respectively.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis returns to the road next weekend for a four-game series with Adams State University (7-31, 7-19 RMAC) in Alamosa, Colorado. Saturday's doubleheader will kick off at 12pm.
