DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team (12-17, 9-14 RMAC) provided their seniors with a final home series to remember as they split with Colorado School of Mines (20-13, 19-6 RMAC) on the Regis Softball Field.
Game One | How it Happened: The Rangers fell in game one by a score of 6-2. Mines used a two-run third inning followed by a three-run fifth inning to secure the victory.
Regis did manage to put the Orediggers on their toes as
Michelle Larose blasted a triple to center field that scored
Allisha Martinez and
Jessi Case, closing the distance between themselves and the visiting team to just three runs.
After a three-up, three-down inning in the sixth, RU threatened in the bottom of the seventh after
Morgan Stradley reached via a fielder's choice. The Rangers were unable to profit, however, and would end the first half of the day with a 6-2 loss.
Game Notes: Carly Beard notched a team-high two hits while Larose's triple garnered two RBIs. At first base,
Macy Cox tallied 10 putouts and
Tori Brown finished with a team-best five assists.
Taylor Armitage earned the start for Regis in the circle, totaling one strikeout while conceding two earned runs.
Game Two | How it Happened: After suffering a third consecutive loss to the Orediggers, Regis was ready to get back on track and they did just that in the series finale.
After sitting down three straight batters on the defensive end in the first inning, the Rangers followed it up with a pair of runs in the next half inning. Cox picked up first base on a single to left field before Beard moved her to third. Both went on to score on
Analece Apodaca's double to deep left center.
Two innings later Regis struck again, this time with a Brown homerun over the left center field fence that score Cox with it to put the home team up 4-0.
The Orediggers fought to cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning as they collected a pair of runs due to Ranger miscues but they would be stopped short of overtaking the lead as Regis secured the 4-2 victory.
Game Notes: In the circle, Armitage pitched through all seven innings and gave a near perfect performance. She finished with no earned runs and two strikeouts while walking just one batter.
Cox went 2-for-3, recording two runs and nine putouts. Nelson added two hits while Brown and Apodaca both sealed the game with two RBIs.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will finish the rest of their season on the road. They travel to Grand Junction, Colorado next weekend as they face-off with Colorado Mesa University and Colorado State University-Pueblo in a three-team pod series. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 10am.
