LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (20-29, 15-21 RMAC) picked up their 20
th win of the season with a 5-1 win over Colorado Christian University (13-36, 8-28 RMAC) in their final regular season game of the season.
How It Happened: Regis left two runners on base in the first inning before turning two hits and a defensive error into a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Junior
Kennedy Phillips sent his pay-off pitch through the right side of the infield to begin the second inning. A throwing error by the Cougars' catcher allowed sophomore
Andy Beyene to reach base while Phillips crossed home plate to get the Rangers on the board.
Later in the same inning, junior
Ryan Tierney sent a sacrifice fly to right-field that scored sophomore
Thomas Alexander who reached base via a full-count walk.
The Cougars lessened their deficit to one with one run in the fourth inning. The score remained 2-1 in favor of RU until the seventh inning. Regis strung together four hits in the top of the seventh inning that led to two more runs. Both of the seventh inning runs came with two outs.
The Rangers secured their 5-1 win with their final run being scored in the top of the eighth inning. Freshman
Miguel Marquez sent an RBI-triple to left-field that scored Phillips, who reached base via a lead-off walk.
Game Notes: RU outhit the Cougars 10-8 with three players recording multiple hits. Freshman
Jacob Barr (2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI), Phillips (2-4) and Marquez (2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI) all accounted for two hits.
Sophomore
Colin King (3-4) went the complete game for the first time in his collegiate career. He pitched all nine innings, allowing one run on eight hits.
