Regis picks up season-opening win

LAS VEGAS - The Nicole Thompson era got off to a winning start as the Regis Softball team was victorious in its season opener, 4-3, over Oklahoma Baptist at the Desert Stinger Classic.

How it Happened: The Rangers benefited from two errors to open a 3-0 lead in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Carly Beard field out to center field to score Carly Gray from third. An off target throw from the center fielder, allowed Jessi Case to score after she moved up to third on the fly out.

Shayelyn Allen followed with a single to left field that was misplayed allowing Laura Scheffel to score for RU

Regis pushed its lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth with Logan Taylor a doubling down the left field line and coming home on Gray's single through the hole on the left side of the infield.

Oklahoma Baptist cut the Rangers' lead in half with a two-run single off the bat of Jadyn James in the bottom half of the fourth.

The Lady Bison put a third run on the board against RU reliever Taylor Armitage. Tyra Garcia was hit by a pitch to start the fifth inning and eventually scored from third on a passed ball.

Armitage settled down and worked around an error in the sixth to strand two base runners and sat down Oklahoma Baptist in order to seal the victory for Regis.

Kara Rodeheaver (1-0) started and earned the victory in the circle for Regis. She pitched four innings, allowing five hits, striking out five and giving up one earned run. Armitage tossed three innings to earn the save.
