WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Regis softball team was on both sides of the win-lose column as it lost to Cameron University in the morning and followed with a win over host school Midwestern State University Texas.

The Rangers split their four games at the tournament and own an overall record of 3-6 heading into their home opener next weekend. 

Cameron Game | How it Happened: Madison Flores led the Rangers with her three-hit effort and plated RU's only run in a 5-1 loss to the Aggies. 

Cameron jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a two-run double in the first inning, and two runs on a single and steal of home in the second inning.

The Rangers' run was supplied by Jessi Case with one out in the top of the seventh, when she singled up the middle to score Flores from second. RU would strand two runners on base to end the game.Regis left eight on base, including two runners in the sixth inning. RU went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. 

Kara Rodeheaver (1-3) took the loss for the Rangers in a complete-game effort. She pitched six innings, allowing five earned runs, striking out two, and throwing 83 pitches.

Flores' effort came a day after she posted two hits and four RBI. She also walked four times and helped to turn three double plays for the Rangers. 

Game Notes: All of RU's hits were singles… Knyra Nelson had the other hit for the Rangers… Total game time was 1:35, the shortest game of the year for the Rangers… 

Midwestern State University Texas | How it Happened: RU closed out its four-game tournament appearance taking on the host school Midwestern State University Texas. 

Logan Taylor came up with a go-ahead single, Case provided the insurance with a late triple that scored two runs, and Abby Covington earned her first victory in a 4-1 Rangers win over Midwestern State.

Taylor's single in the top of the fourth momentarily tied the game at 1-1. Taylor's heads up play to move to second drew a throw from the catcher giving Maggie Washer the opportunity to sprint home to put the Rangers up 2-1.

Case opened that lead with a triple to the right field corner that scored Carly Gray. An errant throw from the right fielder trying to throw her out got away and Case scampered home putting the Rangers up by three runs.

Covington (1-2) gave the Rangers a strong seven innings in her fourth start of the season. She held the Mustangs hitless after the third inning and struck out four.

Midwestern State opened the scoring with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third inning and held onto that lead until Taylor's RBI.

Game Notes: Shayelyn Allen had two hits and leads the Rangers with a .409 batting average after nine games… Beard was lifted for Washer as a pinch runner in the fourth… It was the second victory of the tournament for the Rangers, who downed Northwestern Oklahoma State 10-5 on Saturday.

Up Next For The Rangers: Regis opens its home and conference schedule with two doubleheaders against Adams State next weekend at the Regis Softball Complex. First pitches are scheduled at noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
