CHADRON, Neb. - The Regis softball team splits its doubleheader with Chadron State, earning a 4-1 victory before falling 3-2 in the finale.
Kara Rodeheaver and
Taylor Armitage lead the way for the Rangers, who earned a series split in the four-game series. The Rangers are now 8-8 overall on the season and 5-2 in RMAC contests.
Game One | How it Happened: A four-run by the Rangers' offense backed Rodeheaver who twirled her second start against the Eagles.
Rodeheaver held the Eagles to three hits as she finished the weekend earning both the Rangers' victories. The righty allowed no earned runs in her 14 innings, surrendered nine hits and lowered her ERA to 2.86.Â
The Rangers scored all of their runs in a third inning propelled by the top of the lineup.
Laura Scheffel singled through the left side to plate
Carly Gray and
Kynra Nelson. Regis would plate two additional runs on groundouts from
Shayelyn Allen and Armitage to take the 4-0 lead.
The Eagles scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a miscue by
Madison Flores that extended the inning.
Game Notes: Nelson and Armitage had two hits for the Rangers… Rodeheaver struck out one to earn her fifth victory of the season … Nelson,
Jessi Case, and Scheffel scored one run from the top 3 line up spots…
Jillian Bartley hit a triple for RU.Â
Game Two | How it Happened: Armitage pitched six innings and hit a home run, but it was not enough for the Rangers to earn a series victory over the Eagles.
Armitage allowed three unearned runs as the Rangers' defense committed three errors, which turned out to be the difference in the one-run loss.Â
Case misplayed a ball in the second inning that allowed Chadron to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the third inning Armitage's throw to first base was off target allowing two runs to score.
Regis battled back as
Carly Beard drove in Nelson on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Armitage pulled the Rangers back within a run with her second homer of the season coming in the seventh.Â
Chadron starter Tia Kohl would retire
Logan Taylor and strike out
Maggie Washer to close out the game.Â
Game Notes: Both teams combined for just seven hits, with Regis holding a 4-3 lead… Armitage struck out just one in her first start of the weekend… This was the second RMAC conference weekend series of the season for the Rangers.Â
