Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rangers topple Skyhawks 90-77

DENVER, Colo. – After picking up a solid win on Friday night, the Regis University men's basketball team (14-9, 9-8 RMAC) faced off with the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (13-10, 7-10 RMAC) on Saturday evening, coming away with 90-77 win at home.

How It Happened: Through the first 20 minutes of basketball, Regis opened up a 13-point advantage, 46-33, thanks to strong defense and solid shooting on offense. The Rangers held the second-leading scorer in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), FLC's Riley Farris, to only nine points on 4-of-9 shooting in the first half. Senior Christian Little and sophomore Toni Rocak picked up right where they left off from the night before, each scoring 11 points and combining to go 9-for-14 from the field. Senior Roberto Vercellino added nine points with one made three-pointer, two free-throws and a couple layups. The largest lead of the second half was 16 points for RU when they held a 44-28 lead with 3:01 remaining in the opening period of play.

The second half was a little closer for the Skyhawks who managed to chip away at their deficit to get within five points with 7:46 left in the second half. Regis countered the small comeback with eight-straight points. A layup and jump shot from Little topped off with a three-pointer from freshman Aaron Bokol helped put the Rangers back in front by 12. Little nailed back-to-back three-pointers a few minutes later to extend the lead to 15 points, 84-69, with 4:11 to go. This forced a timeout from FLC. The final basket of the game came on a breakaway dunk from redshirt-freshman Kevin Ebiriekwe to seal the game, 90-77, for RU.

Game Notes: Little posted a game-high 25 points, shooting 11-16 from the field and 3-for-4 from deep. Rocak was next with 15 points and junior Donald Gipson added 14. Bokol reached double figures in the game with 10 points, knocking down two of his three shots from behind the arc. Vercellino finished with nine points and nine rebounds on a night where the home team scored 54 points in the paint.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will hit the road for two games on the Western Slope of Colorado, meeting up with the Wester Colorado University Mountaineers on Friday, February 14 at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday battle with the always tough Colorado Mesa University Mavericks at 7:30 p.m.
