Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rangers Fall, 74-84, to Yellow Jackets

Four Rangers reach double-digits in scoring

SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Regis University men's basketball team (1-2, 1-2 RMAC) kicked off the new year with a game against the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets in Spearfish S.D..

How it Happened: The Rangers were shooting well in the first half; sophomore guard Will Cranston-Lown led the team in the first half with ten points. The Rangers were able to keep a solid lead for most of the first half and only trailed after the first bucket of the game, which was a slam dunk by Yellow Jacket senior forward Kevin Senghore-Petereson. Regis shared the ball effectively as seven players scored in the first half. RU came back strong and led by as much as 11 points. The Yellow Jackets kept fighting though and cut the Ranger's lead to just three points after back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore guard Tommy Donovan and junior guard Sindou Cisse with eight minutes left in the half. However, Regis went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 28-19 to end the half.

The Yellow jackets came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. BHSU started out by going on a 16-1 run to make their lead 38-47 two minutes into the half until a big 3-pointers from Cranston-Lown stopped the bleeding. However, RU was unable to keep up as the Yellow Jackets shot 62 percent from the field in the second half, the Rangers shot 36 percent

Game Notes: Cranston-Lown (6-10 FG, 4-4 3-PT, 1-2 FT) led Regis in scoring with 17 points. Freshman guard Kai Daniels (4-7 FG, 1-2 3-PT, 3-4 FT) and junior forward Alex Cartwright (6-14 FG, 0-4 3-PT) were right behind him with 12 points each.  Impressivly, RU forced 21 turnovers for BHSU. Sophmore guard Aaron Bokol (3-6 FG, 1-1 3-PT, 4-4 FT) crashed the boards hard, he accumulated 11 rebounds in the game. He even posted 11 points, giving him a double-double. He also had a steal.

Up Next for the Rangers: RU will continue their road streak with their next matchup being against the Chadron State College Eagles (1-1, 1-1 RMAC) Monday evening.
