Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rangers hold on to a 2-1 lead to best ThunderWolves

DENVER - The Regis University women's soccer team (8-4-0, 5-2-0 RMAC) faced the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves (6-5-1, 5-1-1 RMAC) on a chilly and wet Thursday afternoon. The squad was looking to rebound after falling to Colorado Mesa the previous Sunday, 1-4. The team fought hard and did just that in a close nail biter.

How it Happened: Junior Allison Warta got things going for the Rangers in the 12th minute when freshman Sarah Wynn fed Warta a nice pass. Warta received the ball and promptly buried it in the back of the net to elevate Regis to a 1-0 lead.

Then in the 19th minute, Regis had another opportunity to increase their lead when the ThunderWolves committed a foul in the penalty box. Graduate student Keegan Storlie lined up to take the PK and did a great job of putting it out of the keepers reach to give them a 2-0 lead.

After the break, both teams were fighting hard to keep the ball in the attacking zone. Each team would see shot attempts, but it wasn't until the 81st minute when Pueblo would find the back of the net. With the game at 2-1, the Ranger's defense put on the clamps and didn't allow another Pueblo shot. When the dust settled, Regis held on to their 2-1 lead to win the match.

Game Notes: Although she didn't score in today's game, junior Kelby Kuo had a game-high six shots. Junior Audrey Teague rattled off four shots with one on-target. Junior Madison Hand, freshman Stella Straubing and Warta all had two shots. Senior keeper Katelyn Martin had six huge saves that kept the ThunderWolves at bay.

Up Next for the Rangers: The team will be celebrating Senior Day this Sunday when Colorado Christian (4-4-3, 3-2-1 RMAC) comes to the Match Pitch. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. while Senior Day festivities will begin around 11:30 a.m..
