Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regis Challenges Top-Ranked CMU, Falls Short 2-0

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Regis University men's soccer team (7-7-1, 3-5-0 RMAC) was unable to comeback from a two-goal, first-half deficit against the top-ranked Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (14-2, 8-0 RMAC), losing 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened: Regis and CMU met for the first time on Sunday, and it did not take long for things to get started. In the first 46 seconds, graduate student Parker Klein took a shot off an offensive opportunity which was saved by the Mavericks keeper. Six minutes after kick-off, during a span of less than two minutes, the Mavericks scored two goals on back-to-back shots to take a quick 2-0 lead in the game. Senior Michael Jimenez would have an opportunity in the 17th minute, but his shot in the upper left part of the net was saved. Another opportunity came late in the first half when junior Lucas Durval took a shot that was again saved by CMU. At halftime, the score remained 2-0 with the home team in front.

In the second half, graduate student Tim Dolan kept out what would have been another Maverick goal by making a save to his lower left. In the 65th minute, Klein ripped another shot that beat the keeper but also hit the top of the woodwork and stayed out of the goal. That was the last shot on goal that was credited to RU. Dolan made another save in the final 30 seconds of the match which led to a final score of 2-0 after the full 90 minutes.

Game Notes: Regis had 15 shots, with three on goal, in the match while the Mavericks tallied 20 with five shots on goal. Dolan made six total saves in between the posts against a very potent CMU offense. Jimenez, Klein and Durval registered the three shots on goal for the Rangers.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's soccer team will close out the regular season with two matches at home next weekend. Regis will take on the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks on Friday, October 9th at 3 p.m. before the regular season finale against Adams State University on Sunday, October 31 at 2 p.m.
