Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Martin reaches a career-high in RU's 1-0 win over Westminster

Salt Lake City, UTAH - The Regis University women's soccer team (7-3, 4-1) continued their four-game road trip with a matchup versus the Westminster College Griffins (4-2-2, 1-2-1), Friday evening. The team relied heavily on their defensive line to stop Westminster from having opportunities on net as well as their keeper to make saves. In the end, RU held on to win, 1-0.

How it Happened: It was a defensive stalemate to begin the game as neither team could find the back of the net. Through the first 45 minutes of play, Westminster had six shot attempts compared to the Ranger's two.

Senior Gia Lemley had RU's fist crack on goal, but her shot was blocked by a Griffin defender. Junior Audrey Teague attempted to score on the rebound, but her shot was saved. On the defensive side of things for the Rangers, senior keeper Katelyn Martin came in clutch and stopped the ball three times in the first half to keep the score level at 0-0.

In the second half, Regis finally found the goal when graduate student Keegan Storlie scored her first goal of the season with an assist credited to graduate student Emily Goodson. From there, RU's defense stepped up big and allowed no more shots.

Game Notes: Martin inked a new career-high in saves tonight with five. Her previous career-high was tied with three saves versus Hawaii Pacific on Sept. 19.

Storlie's game-winning goal was her first goal since March 11 when the team beat Colorado Christian, 4-0. The Rangers now sit in fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), but their 4-1 conference record is tied with UCCS and Mines who are in second and third, respectively. They just have better overall records than Regis.

Up Next for the Rangers: The team will finally wrap up their road stint with a trip to Grand Junction, Colo. to face Colorado Mesa (6-2-0, 3-1-0) this Sunday.
