Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Regis Fights Until the End Versus No. 13 Western Washington

Ryan leads Regis with 12 points

DENVER - The Regis University women's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 RMAC) faced no easy task in the No. 13 Western Washington University Vikings (4-0,0-0 Great Northwest), Friday night at the Regis Field House. After 11 lead changes, Regis couldn't quite find a rhythm on the offensive side of the floor in the fourth period as they fell after a hard battle, 47-60.

How it Happened: Junior Josey Ryan scored first after the team won the tip to start the game. But WWU matched by draining a triple on the other end of the court which in turn spurred a 9-1 run. The Vikings maintained their lead through the first period, but Ryan cut the deficit to just one just before time expired with a huge triple.

In the second, Regis took the lead back when Junior Morgan L. Smith got a layup in the paint, making the score 16-15. The two teams would spend the remainder of the half trading blows and flip-flopping leads multiple times. After five lead changes, WWU had the four-point lead heading into the half.

Two minutes into the second half, graduate student Tashika Burrell banged home a big 3-pointer to give Regis the lead back, 35-34. A shootout would ensue until two minutes left in the period when WWU took the 42-41 lead after a layup in the paint - and they wouldn't let go of it.

The Vikings went on a 12-6 run to finish out the game in the fourth, cementing their 60-47 win at the Field House.

Game Notes: Regis won the turnover battle 15-16.
