DENVER - The Regis University men's basketball team (5-1,0-0 RMAC) extended their win streak to five-straight by handling the Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks (0-2), 96-71 at the Regis Field House Saturday afternoon. Graduate student guard
Brian Dawson (18 points) led four other Rangers to double-digits in the win.
How it Happened: Regis' stellar shooting from all angles put them in command, 55-26, at the end of the first frame. RU was on fire in the first half as they were 22-33 (67 percent) from the field, 7-13 (54 percent) from behind the arc and a perfect 100 percent at the charity stripe. Graduate student guard
Troy Brady put the team up by 29, their largest lead of the day, when he drilled a triple just before the buzzer sounded, signaling halftime.
In the second frame, the Redhawks got things going on the offensive side of the floor as they inflated their shooting percentage from the field by 15 percent and nearly doubled their percentage from behind the arc from the first half. However, stout defense from RU prevented the Redhawks from ever cutting the lead down to single digits.
Benedictine Mesa would however bring Regis' lead down to 14 after they got to the line, but that spurred a 9-0 run from the Rangers which easily killed their momentum.Sophomore forward
Nik Atanasovs put the icing on the cake in the team's final possession when he drained a 3-pointer to put the 96-71 win in the history books.
