Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rangers fall to No. 1 ranked Orediggers in crosstown match up

Mines is ranked No. 1 in DII NABC

GOLDEN - The Regis University men's basketball team (3-7, 3-7 RMAC) headed down the road to Golden, Colo. to take on the top-ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (10-0, 9-0 RMAC) Monday evening. Mines is the No. 1 ranked team in DII men's basketball. The two teams met previously on Dec. 10, the Rangers fell 50-73 in that matchup. Tonight, the Orediggers prevailed again.

How it Happened: Regis took an early lead via back-to-back 3-pointers from graduate guard Troy Brady (4-5 FG, 2-2 3-PT) and senior guard Brian Dawson (7-20 FG, 2-5 3-PT, 4-4 FT). That gave the team a two-point advantage two minutes into the game, but that would be the last lead for the Rangers.

A 12-5 run by the Orediggers started a snowball effect for them in scoring. The Rangers kept pace, and even out-rebounded Mines in attacking the offensive glass. At the end of the first, Regis was behind by 26-35.

In the second half, Dawson scored 17 of RU's 26 total points. Freshman guard Matt Enghauser got the first points of his Regis career as he got to the free-throw line and knocked down both shots. The game concluded with a final score of 52-84.

Game Notes: The Rangers outrebounded the Orediggers on the offensive glass 10-7 which was a stark improvement from the previous contests; RU has lost the battle on the glass 266-354 through their last ten games. Dawson extends his streak of six games scoring in double-digits. Sophomore guard Aaron Bokol had a game-high seven rebounds.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's basketball team will have a few days off before action resumes against the Colorado Christian Cougars (1-9), Feb. 5 at the Regis Field House at 8 p.m.
