Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rangers edged by UCCS, 1-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Regis University women's soccer team (2-1-1, 0-1 RMAC) was dealt their first loss of the season today in their conference opener versus the No. 7 UC - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (3-0, 1-0 RMAC), Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened: UCCS's attackers set the tone early by rattling off two shots in the first seven minutes of play. The Mountain Lions capitalized by scoring on their next shot, 11 minutes into the contest.

Senior forward Carly Bych attempted to level the score in the 25th minute by slamming the ball to the center of the net, but her shot was saved by the keeper. Then, just before halftime, sophomore mid Madison Hand sailed the ball just above the crossbar in an attempt to score, but was unable to find the net. The half concluded with Regis down 1-0.

In the second half, sophomore defender Allison Warta sent a nice shot on-target to the upper right-hand corner of the goal, but again the UCCS keeper was there to make the save.

RU had two more chances to score in the final six minutes of play; senior mid Keegan Storlie launched two shots, but neither found the back of the net. Thus, the game concluded with a score of 1-0, Mountain Lions.

Here's what head coach Kelly Brown had to say about today's game, "I wish we would have started with more bite to us; we came out a little flat. I knew it was going to be an emotional match given the history, especially following such an exciting men's game, we needed to get through the first 15 minutes without conceding,"

She continued, "Unfortunately, we gave up a goal 11 minutes in and had to chase the game. We put a great second half together, had some very good individual defensive performances from Emily Goodson and others, and almost tied it up at the end when Natasha's shot went wide. We have a lot of good moments to build upon when we get back to work tomorrow"

Game Notes: UCCS outshot the Rangers 13-5 in both halves. Senior keeper Julia Coombs totaled five saves on six shots on goal. Storlie led Regis in shots with two; one was on-target.

Up Next for the Rangers: RU will have a short break before returning to play April 1 against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (3-2-1, RMAC 1-1-0) at home. Kickoff is set for noon on Thursday and you can watch it by clicking here.
