DENVER - The Regis University women's soccer team (3-1-1, 1-1-0 RMAC) returned to action as they squared off against the MSU Denver Roadrunners (2-6, 1-4 RMAC) Thursday afternoon. The team's impressive offensive performance in snowy conditions elevated them over the Roadrunners, 3-1.
The squad had a special ceremony for their six seniors as this was their final home game on the Regis Match Pitch. The seniors who were celebrated were:
#4
Julia Masciarelli - D
#1
Julia Coombs - GK
#8
Carly Bych - F
#9
Natasha Wehner - F
#10
Sophia Brendle - MF
#11
Kalianna Crosby - D
How it Happened: The Roadrunners struck first in the 20th minute when Coombs got caught out of the net. However, Regis matched MSU Denver with a perfect strike just a few minutes later in the 24th minute. Bych found the back of the net off an assist from Wehner to level the score at 1-1.
In the final 45 minutes, RU pulled away from the Roadrunners, but not before a yellow card was issued to Regis' bench. It looked like that might swing momentum in MSU Denver's favor, but the Rangers kept a level head.
Madison Hand lifted RU over the Roadrunners in the 66th minute and gave them a 1-2 lead. An assist was credited to
Allison Warta. Then, just two minutes later, Warta scored a goal of her own off an assist from
Molly Kratzer, pushing RU out of reach from the Roadrunners and securing the win.
Game Notes: Regis outshot MSU Denver 21 (10 SOG) to 16 (7 SOG). Coombs recorded a season-high six saves in today's win. Bych had a game-high six shots, four of which were on-target and one goal. It was a scrappy game as 14 fouls were committed, six by the Roadrunners and eight by RU.
