Haley Kennedy Named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, Four Earn Spots on All-RMAC Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On Wednesday morning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced the All-RMAC volleyball teams and the major award winners for the 2020 spring season.

Sophomore Haley Kennedy was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year while senior outside hitter, Caitlyn Burroway, and sophomore setter, Mara LeGrand, claimed spots on the All-RMAC First Team. Sophomore libero, Haley Kennedy, and junior outside hitter, Rachel Siurek, earned their places on the All-RMAC Second Team.

Kennedy (Arcadia, Calif.) becomes, what is believed to be, only the second Regis player to earn RMAC Defensive Player of the Year after Nikki Kennedy earned the award in 2017. Kennedy was the conference leader in digs with 255 this season, and ranked second in the RMAC with a 4.64 digs per set average. Her 255 digs are the 20th most in NCAA Division II this season. She earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on February 9 of this year after beginning the season with 15, 22 and 20 dig performances in the first three games of the season. She finished the season with five games of 20+ digs including a season-high 23 in a win against the Colorado School of Mines on March 20, and three 22-dig performances. In addition to leading the team in most defensive categories, the sophomore libero ranked second on the team with 54 assists and 14 service aces.

Burroway (League City, Texas) makes her fourth appearance on the All-RMAC First Team after leading the conference with 171 kills, ranking fifth with a 3.11 kills per set average. The Texas native is no stranger to All-RMAC First Team selections as she has earned the honor all four seasons of her career. She earned her first nod to the All-RMAC First Team in 2017 when she was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year, then earned the honor again as a sophomore and junior. Burroway is a six-rotation phenom who accounted for five double-doubles this season. She had a season-high 18 kills in the win over Colorado School of Mines on March 20 and also recorded a season-best 22 digs against Western Colorado University on March 6. Burroway is an all-around star on the court for the Rangers.

LeGrand (Papillion, Neb.) makes her debut on the First Team as a sophomore in 2020. The setter made her case for RMAC Setter of the Year, but came up just short in the shortened 2020 spring season. LeGrand ranked second in the conference in total assists (567) and assists per set average (10.31) while also recording seven double-doubles. She posted a season-high 50 assists in a four-set win over Western Colorado on March 6 and also had a career-high six blocks in that match. Her season-high of 15 digs came on March 20 when RU defeated Colorado School of Mines in five sets. LeGrand is one of the most consistent setters in the conference and in her first season as the starting setter, she picked up All-RMAC First Team honors. The future is bright for this young setter from Nebraska.

Siurek (Broomfield, Colo.) makes her first appearance on the All-RMAC Second Team after posting her best season of her career at Regis. She set numerous career-highs this season including ranking second on the team with 149 kills, a 2.71 kills per set average and 35 blocks. She registered a .256 hitting percentage, 30 digs, four assists. She posted a career-high 19 kills in the five-set win over Colorado School of Mines on March 20. She had a career-best seven blocks against the Western Colorado University Mountaineers on March 6 where she also matched a career-high with five digs. Siurek's success at the net as a junior will certainly give her a lot of confidence heading into her senior season this Fall.
