MINOT, N.D. - The Regis University women's soccer team commenced their regular-season with a road trip and faced the Minot State Beavers of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Friday evening.
How it Happened: The Rangers cruised past the Beavers thanks to a hot start aided by a Minot State own goal in the 5th minute of play when graduate student
Keegan Storlie took a free kick. Just a short time later, junior
Casey Lavin scored the first goal of her Regis career off an assist from junior
Kelby Kuo in the 20th minute of play, increasing the team's lead to 2-0.
RU kept the pressure up and not even three minutes later, the team scored yet again. This time, junior
Ella Palmer found the back of the net off an assist from freshman
Sarah Wynn, solidifying their first half dominance.
Later on in the 55th minute, the Beavers stopped the shutout with a goal of their own, but would see no more. The final score was 3-1, Rangers.
Here's what Head Coach
Kelly Brown had to say about the win, "We are very happy with the performance tonight. To get a win, on the road, against a very good, high-pressing team was a nice way to start the season. We did a good job of keeping our composure in possession and created some great goal scoring opportunities off set pieces".
Game Notes: Palmer broke her career high in shots with five. She also had three shots-on-goal which was tied for the game-high. Freshman
Alex Baer had three shots while Kuo and Lavin each had two. Regis out-shot the Beavers 13 (7) - 9 (4). Senior
Katelyn Martin took home three saves.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will have the rest of the weekend to unwind before action resumes Monday at the Regis Match Pitch when the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm come to town. That contest will start at 1 p.m. and you can watch it
