DENVER - The Regis University women's soccer team (5-3-0, 2-1-0) took on the MSU Denver Roadrunners (5-1-2, 2-1-0) in the Ranger's third conference game of the season. Regis was riding a three-game win streak heading into the Regency Athletic Complex, but two late goals from the Roadrunners was enough to snap RU's streak and deal the squad their first conference loss.
How it Happened: Things were looking good for the Rangers in the 3rd minute when junior
Madison Hand scored off an assist from the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, junior
Kelby Kuo.Â
From there, it was a defensive brawl as each squad saw just six shots in the first 45 minutes. Kuo had a great opportunity to score in the 41st minute, but a nice save kept MSU Denver within reach.Â
In the second half, the Roadrunners turned up the attack in desperation. In the 61st minute after a corner, Elli Zimmer of MSU Denver scored to level the game at 1-1. Then just a couple of moments later, another Roadrunner corner allowed Miriam Caballero of MSU Denver to score, pushing them in front of Regis, 2-1.
RU was able to rattle off two shots before time expired, but neither found the back of the net.
Game Notes: MSU Denver outshot Regis 15 (7) - 10 (3). The Roadrunners registered nine corners while RU had five. Kuo led the team in shots with three (one on-target) and had one assist. Hand's goal was her third of the season. Â
Up Next for the Rangers: The squad will look to rebound this Sunday when they travel to Spearfish, S.D. to battle the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets (2-3-0, 1-1-0) at 11 a.m..Â
