DENVER - The Regis University women's basketball team (9-9,5-6 RMAC) was handed a 75-61 loss at the hands of the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (12-3,7-3 RMAC), Saturday night at the Regis Field House. Graduate student
Tashika Burrell led the Rangers with 14 points in the loss.
How it Happened: Regis led 16-15 at the end of the first 10 minutes of play thanks to 50 percent shooting from the field. Mesa came back strong in the second frame though as they went on a 19-9 run through the period.Â
After halftime, RU cut the Mavs' lead to just two (40-38) after a 13-6 run which was capped by freshman
Megan Pohs getting a layup at the 4:52 mark. However, that would ignite Mesa to shoot lights out in the fourth period. CMU shot 67 percent from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe to seal Regis' fate. In the end, the Rangers fell, 75-61.
Game Notes: Regis' bench continues to produce, Tonight, the bench accumulated 24 points.
Burrell (5-11 FG, 0-4 3-PT) scored 14 and had three steals plus two assists.
Junior
Sam Deem (5-8 FG) came off the bench with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman
Athena Saragoza (4-14 FG, 2-7 3-PT) contributed 10 points.
Pohs (4-8 FG, 0-3 3-PT) added nine points.Â
