Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 15 Regis Thunders Back In OT To beat Adams State, 95-93

Five Rangers score in double-digits

DENVER - The No. 15 Regis University men's basketball team (15-2,10-1 RMAC) faced the Adams State Grizzlies (9-9,5-7 RMAC) after a heartbreaking loss to the Colorado Mesa Mavericks the previous week. Tonight, Regis rebounded on the road and forced overtime after trailing by as much as 10 points to ASU. In extra time, RU won the game by a margin of 95-93. Five Rangers reached double-digits in the win.

How it Happened: The Rangers trailed by as much as 10 points in the first frame, but thundered back on a 12-5 run to end the half, cutting their deficit to just 40-43, Adams State.

Regis came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders as they cruised to a 12-0 run to open the second half. With RU up 52-43, ASU would find a rhythm on the offensive side of the floor by going 56 percent from the field (13-23). The Grizzlies took the lead back at the 8:21 mark (67-66), swinging momentum in their favor. The two squads were neck-and-neck through the final eight minutes, trading blow after blow.

Finally, ASU owned a three-point advantage with under 10 seconds to go. Regis had one more possession to send the game to OT, so they gave the rock to one of their best shooters, graduate student guard Brian Dawson. Dawson proceeded to dribble up the court and drain a monster 3-pointer as time expired, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra period, RU could not be stopped. The Rangers' defense forced Adams State to a stifling 0 percent from both the field and behind the arc. Regis on the other hand shot 50 percent from both the field and from the three. Adams got some points at the charity stripe, but RU held on to win it, 95-93.

Game Notes: RU scored 22 points off 15 Adams State turnovers.

The bigs banged around in the paint for 38 points.

Regis crashed the glass hard with 20 second chance points.

Junior guard Will Cranston-Lown (8-13 FG, 3-5 3-PT) led the team with 21 points.

Freshman forward Brayden Carter (6-9 FG) had 15 points off the bench, one short of his career-high.

Graduate student guard Troy Brady (3-8 FG, 1-5 3-PT) and junior guard Aaron Bokol (4-8 FG, 1-2 3-PT) added 12 points each.

Dawson (3-8 FG, 2-4 3-PT) nabbed 10 points.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will continue their road trip tomorrow when they face CSU Pueblo at 7:30 p.m. in Pueblo.
