Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Four Rangers Reaching Double-Digits Not Enough Versus Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Regis University women's basketball team's (9-11,5-8 RMAC) skid hit five as the Rangers fell to the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves, Saturday night on the road. Regis faced one of the toughest teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in the ThunderWolves - Pueblo sits third in the conference while RU falls to nine.

How it Happened: Regis and Pueblo were shooting fairly equally throughout the first frame: the Rangers were just north of 30 percent (6-19 FG) while CSU Pueblo was 10-28 from the field. The ThunderWolves made a layup just before the first ten minutes came to end, allowing them to lead it 16-15 at the first break.

In the second period, Pueblo went on a 14-24 run thanks to their best shooting of the night (60 percent). At the end of the half, CSU Pueblo was up 42-29.

In the third period Regis opened with a nice 8-3 run to keep themselves within striking distance. Regis continued to come back and later in the final frame, cut the Pueblo lead to 67-63 when freshman Megan Pohs drilled a triple at the 3:05 mark. However, the ThunderWolves ended the game on a 9-2 run to win the game, 76-65.

Game Notes: RU was 23-66 from the field (34.8%) and 11-24 (45.8%) from behind the arc.

Graduate student Tashika Burrell (6-13 FG, 6-10 3-PT) led the team with 20 points and four assists.

Junior Josey Ryan (5-11 FG, 3-4 3-PT) had 15 points in the game plus four assists.

Freshman Megan Pohs (4-11 FG, 2-5 3-PT) added 10 points.

Senior Erin Stroberg (4-9 FG) had 10 points and a game-high eight boards.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will have about a week to prepare for another road test against the Colorado Christian Cougars (5-12,2-9 RMAC) this Friday at 5 p.m.
