Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dierck's and Saragoza's Career-Highs Ground Skyhawks

DENVER - The Regis University women's basketball team (11-14,7-11 RMAC) capped their weekend with another win. This time over the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks ( 2-20 RMAC,1-15 RMAC), Saturday night at the Regis Field House!

How it Happened: Freshman Athena Saragoza scored a career-high 24 points en route to the team's 78-77 victory over Fort Lewis.

After Fort Lewis opened the game on a 11-6 run, Regis came back and stretched their lead to as large as six in the first half when sophomore Madison Diercks drilled a trey at the 5:40 mark.

Regis kept the hot hand through the rest of the game, going on a 17-3 run through the third frame.

With time winding down though, the Skyhawks made an attempt at a comeback. RU's defense held strong though and forced a missed 3-pointer on FLC's last possession. Regis hung on to win it, 78-77.

Game Notes: Tonight, Regis had their best field goal and 3-point percentages all season long. The team was 58 percent (28-48) from the field and 48 percent (11-23) from deep.

Saragoza (8-12 FG, 7-11 3-PT) led the team with 24 points.

Diercks  (7-14 FG, 3-6 3-PT) lit it up for a career-high 21 points and had nine rebounds.

Junior Morgan L. Smith (5-6 FG) had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Rangers will have a few days off before action ramps back up versus Colorado Mesa (19-4,14-4 RMAC) on Friday. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in Grand Junction.
