SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Regis University women's basketball team (11-16,7-13 RMAC) ran into another tough foe Saturday night in the Westminster College Griffins (15-8,14-5 RMAC). The red-hot Griffins never cooled down after shooting north of 50 percent from both the field and behind the arc. Regis fell in the matchup, 56-82.
How it Happened: Westminster ended the first period on a 16-2 run, putting them up 27-11. After WC inflated their lead to as much as 28 points in the first half, the Rangers outscored Westminster 20-19 in the third which put them within 25 points.
However, that was about as close as RU could get to Westminster. Regis fell after shooting 31 percent from the field (24-78) and 24 percent from deep (5-21).Â
Game Notes: Regis outrebounded WC 40-39.
Sophomore
Madison Diercks (5-15 FG, 1-3 3-PT) led the Rangers with 11 points and four rebounds.
Graduate student
Tashika Burrell (4-10 FG, 2-6 3-PT) also had four rebounds and had 10 points.
Senior
Erin Stroberg (3-8 FG) had a team-high eight boards.
Freshman
Megan Pohs (4-10 FG, 1-4 3-PT) and junior
Sam Deem (4-8 FG, 0-10 3-PT) both had nine points in the contest.
Up Next for the Rangers: RU will be back Friday, Feb. 25 when they host CSU Pueblo (19-6,15-4 RMAC) at 5 p.m.
