DENVER - The No. 13 Regis University men's basketball team (16-4,11-3 RMAC) squared off in a televised crosstown matchup with the MSU Denver Roadrunners (14-7,8-7 RMAC). The game featured two of the top teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and was played at the Auraria Event Center on MSU Denver's campus.
How it Happened: A 15-2 run midway through the first frame put Regis up 29-17. MSU Denver matched the Rangers' run quickly by ending the half on a 27-14 run of their own which put them up 44-43 as the teams headed to the locker room.
An 11-6 run from Regis to open the final frame put them back in front of the Roadrunners, 54-50. But MSU Denver's offensive prowess started to solidify following the 4-point Regis lead. The Rangers kept up and never let things get out of hand, but the Roadrunner's 58 percent shooting from the field let them finish the game on a 37-27 run. When the dust settled, Regis fell 87-81.
Game Notes: Regis was 50 percent from the field (30-60) and 37 percent (9-24) from the three.
Senior guard
Brian Dawson (10-19 FG, 3-9 3-PT) led the squad with 23 points and five assists.
Graduate student guard
Troy Brady (7-10 FG, 4-7 3-PT) had 19 points.
Junior
Aaron Bokol (3-6 FG) added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Redshirt junior forward
Kevin Ebiriekwe (4-9 FG, 0-1 3-PT) had eight points and eleven rebounds.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will host Black Hills State (15-5, 13-2 RMAC), the top team in the RMAC this Monday. The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the conference will tip at 5 p.m. at the Regis Field House.
