COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Freshman RHP
Kylie Harpman (8-4) of the Regis University softball team (15-10, 10-2 RMAC) earned her third straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Pitcher fo the Week award, the conference office announced Tuesday. This is believed to be the first time in program history that a student-athlete has earned the award in back-to-back-to-back weeks.
Harpman continued her impressive debut season with RU as she went 2-1 versus the UCCS Mountain Lions this past weekend. She stood in the circle for 18 innings, starting two of the three games she appeared in.
In the series opener on Saturday, Harpman set a program-record for strikeouts in a single-game when she fanned 17 Mountain Lion batters in seven innings of work - the previous record was locked at 13. She wrapped up her sixth complete game of the season by allowing just one run and four hits.
Harpman kept it rolling in game one on Sunday as she pitched yet another complete game. But this time, extras were needed to determine a winner. The freshman hung tough as she tossed 132 pitches in nine innings and sat down another 10 batters. In the final game of the series, Harpman made a brief appearance in which she rang up four batters.
In total, through her three appearances, Harpman delivered 31 strikeouts and allowed just six runs, bringing her team-low ERA to just 2.84. The team settled for a series split versus UCCS, they'll host Washburn and Chadron State this week.
