Rangers welcome Patrick Jolley as new Assistant Baseball Coach

DENVER, Colo. — The Regis University baseball program is excited to announce the addition of Patrick Jolley as the new Assistant Baseball Coach.

"Pat is going to bring a lot of experience to our staff, not only with his background in recruiting but also working with our hitters. He has a great track record of recruiting well and developing the offensive side of things," said Regis head baseball coach, Drew LaComb. "Bringing him in allows the coaching staff to focus on a couple other areas and I'm really excited to get him here."

Jolley comes to Regis after spending three years as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at the University of Northern Colorado; a NCAA Division I program in The Summit League. He will serve primarily as the Rangers' hitting coach and lead the program's recruiting efforts.

Playing their first season in The Summit League, the Bears posted the third best team batting average in 2022 and ranked second behind Oral Roberts with 14 triples.

"I feel that Drew has done a really good job getting this program more and more established and, when the opportunity presented itself, Regis felt like a great fit for me and my family," Jolley said. "I'm very excited to work with Drew and to build off what this program has established the last couple of years."

Prior to his time at UNC, Jolley spent eight seasons as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Centenary College of Louisiana where he helped produce two freshman Louisville Slugger All-Americans and two All-Summit League performers. He also assisted in the recruiting of future MLC pitcher Seth Lugo, who was drafted by the New York Mets in 2010.

The Gents would also notch four Southern Collegiate Conference Championships (2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018) and one NCAA West Regional during Jolley's tenure, while working with 56 players named All-Conference, 2 SCAC Players of the Year, two SCAC Pitcher of the Year awards, including 2015 MLB draftee Taylor Henry.

Jolley also boasts coaching stops at Bossier Parish Community College (2004-2010), where he helped send more than 50 players on to the Division I level and coached 10 MLB draft picks. He also served as an associate scout for the Pittsburg Pirates organization from 2008-2009.

As a player, Jolley began his career at Lassen Community College before finishing his career at Louisiana State University-Shreveport. He transferred to LSUS from Centenary College, where he was a 2003 First Team All-Independent selection as well as First Team All-Louisiana.

Jolley will now work with a Rangers team that is coming off a historic 2022 campaign, which saw the team finish 27-24-1 overall and finish second in the RMAC regular season standings; the program's highest finish since joining the conference in 1997.

Regis posted the third best team batting average in the RMAC (.323) and had the second fewest strikeouts (355). The team also led the RMAC in hit-by-pitches (96) and stolen bases (79-for-98).

"Self-identification is a big thing for me. I want players to understand who they are, what their strengths are, then we build off that while trying to work on some weaknesses," Jolley said. "Toughness, mentality and approach are all things you want in a good hitter and a good offense with a team-first attitude."

NOTES:
In addition to the hiring of Jolley, the Rangers have also announced the promotion of Mike Newton to Assistant Baseball Coach with his primary focus on the pitching staff.

Caleb Cox, who served as the Rangers' pitching coach for the 2021-22 school year, was hired as the Head Baseball Coach at Garden City Community College in June.

"Coach Newton pitched here at Regis and has a wealth of knowledge to offer after a 20-year career coaching at the high school baseball level," LaComb said. "I think Coach Newton will build off the things Caleb was able to do with our pitching staff and bring some new things to the table. This is a great opportunity to have both him and Coach Jolley on our staff to man both sides of the baseball for us. It allows for me to be more of a head coach overseeing some things within our program."
