Rangers score season-high 92 points in win against Colorado Christian

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team handled business against Colorado Christian University on Friday, defeating the Cougars, 92-66.

The Rangers (12-5 overall, 9-2 RMAC) scored a season-high 92 points against CCU (7-11 overall, 3-9 RMAC), supported by double-digit scoring efforts from five different Rangers and extending their win streak to eight.

"Honestly it's amazing to see how much we improve each week and it's speaks to how much these players want to win. It's obvious to anyone watching us how much love they have for the game and how much they care about each other," said Regis women's basketball head coach, Molly Marrin.

How It Happened: The Rangers got off to a hot start Friday night, racking up 22 points in the first quarter to the Cougars' 10. From then on, Regis never let up and scored at least 20 points in every quarter.

"It's the first game we have scored over 20 points in every quarter. Our players have done an excellent job locking in on game plans and knowing our opponents well. They should be commended for their focus and discipline in how they practice and prepare," said Marrin. "I think again, our depth and unselfishness showed tonight as we had five players in double figures."

New to the double-digit club was freshman Kyla Frenchers with a career-high 13 points. Frenchers went 4-for-7 in the field and added on four more points with free throws (4-4).

The Wichita-native wasn't the only one with some sort of perfect performance, however, junior guard Erin Fry scored a team-high 18 points with a 7-for-7 field goal performance coupled with her 4-for-4 efforts at the charity stripe.

Josey Ryan, Sam Deem, and Erin Stroberg also finished with double-digit points against the Cougars. Ryan scored 11, Deem racked up 16, and Stroberg ended the night with 13.

"I thought Sam had one of her best career games on both ends and continue to prove how valuable she is to our team," said Marrin. Deem shot a career-high 7-for-12 from field goal range and was 2-for-2 in free throw shooting.

Come the third quarter, the Rangers all but put the game away, adding an additional 23 points to inflate their lead to 26 points. The Cougars got as close as 13 points at the 5:35 mark in the third, but that would be as good as it got for CCU the rest of the night.

The Rangers combined for a season-high 37-for-60 in field goal shooting (.617) and posted their best offensive showing of the season since Chadron State on Jan. 2, 2023 (.460).

Game Notes:

Up Next: The Rangers travel to Nebraska to play Chadron State College on Saturday at 3 P.M.

"Chadron is a team that pays hard and never quits. It's a tough and fun place to play as they draw well. We will need to be ready on the boards and in a great stance defensively," said Marrin.
