SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Regis University women's basketball team took the lead early in the first and ran with it Friday night, as they cruised to a 76-59 win over Westminster Griffins.
The Rangers (7-2 overall, 2-1 RMAC) inflated their lead over the Griffins (2-5 overall, 0-3 RMAC) to as many as 11 in the first as Athena Saragoza, Sam Deem, Madison Diercks, and Josey Ryan, all finished in double digits by the end of the night.
How It Happened: Diercks wasted no time getting the Rangers on the board with a three-point shot at the 9:22 mark that set the offensive tone for the rest of the night.
Regis finished with a 62.5% field goal shooting percentage after the first ten minutes. By the final buzzer, the Rangers went 29-for-64 (45.3%) from the field.
The Griffins did all they possibly could to try and close the gap, but never got closer than four points. At one point, Regis' led by as many as 23 points.
Saragoza led all Rangers in points with 17, Deem followed with 16, and Diercks netted 12, and Ryan finished with 10.
Despite being outrebounded by three total rebounds, the Rangers had no problem handling the Griffins during their first road trip of the season.
