DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team showed out at the Regis Field House on Saturday night, as they took on the Western Colorado University Mountaineers and came out on top, 78-67.
The Rangers (20-6 overall, 17-3 RMAC) took advantage of 20 offensive rebounds and 24 second chance points to defeat WCU (6-19 overall, 5-15 RMAC) in their last home game of the season.
"We had a slow start but adjusted well in the second quarter to get us going. Our rebounding effort was outstanding and really helped aid us in our shooting drought," said Regis women's basketball head coach, Molly Marrin.
How It Happened: The Mountaineers got off to a quick start, finishing the first quarter leading by two. But the Rangers made quick work of the Mountaineers offense and held them to a measly seven points in the second to go into halftime at 33-24.
Two three-pointers from sophomore Athena Saragoza and another from junior guard Erin Fry at the 6:22 mark of the third quarter bookended a 16-5 run for the Rangers that inflated their lead to as many as 18.
Those three three-pointers helped the Rangers generate their most productive quarter with 28 points. Six of those 28 points came from second chance points following offensive rebounds nabbed by the Rangers.
The 20 offensive rebounds is a season-high for the Rangers, their next highest performance was against Westminster College back in December with 19.
"20 offensive boards is an amazing display of effort and relentlessness. We needed that to get going and extend the lead," said Marrin. "There were multiple people flying in there and grabbing them and it was a lot of fun to watch."

Up Next: The Rangers will finish out their 2022-2023 RMAC regular season play with two road games against New Mexico Highlands (5 p.m. Friday) and CSU Pueblo (5:30 p.m. Saturday).
