Candito throws first complete game as a Ranger, Regis splits series with Skyhawks

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University softball team wrapped up their home series against Fort Lewis College on Sunday, splitting the day and ultimately the weekend series.

The Rangers (16-14 overall, 13-7 RMAC) dropped an eight-inning pitching duel that was 0-0 until the top of the eighth when the Skyhawks (10-17 overall, 8-12 RMAC) hit a two-run home run. Regis battled back in the second game and shut the SKyhawks out, 6-0.

Game Two | How It Happened: The Rangers broke the game wide open almost immediately as graduate student infielder Jessi Case battled through a full count to take her sixth pitch of her at-bat over the left field wall.

Sophomore designated hitter Rachel Williams saw Case's home run and wanted one of her own as she sent another one over the right field wall to make it 2-0 after the first inning.

Freshman right-hander Vanessa Candito backed up Regis' offensive efforts as she kept the Skyhawks off the board with a career-high seven strikeouts in her first complete game of her career.

An explosive third inning added four more runs for the Rangers as freshman outfielder Olivia Wick doubled down the left field line for three RBIs.

Junior infielder Katherine Raper kept the momentum going with a single up the middle pushed Wick across for the fourth run of the inning.

Game Notes:

  • Vanessa Candito threw her first complete game as a Ranger
  • Regis' six hits came from six different batters
  • Vanessa Candito only walked one batter through 29 batters faced
