ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Regis University softball team split Day One of their series against the Adams State Grizzlies on Friday, taking Game One, 9-1, and falling short in Game Two, 5-1.
The Rangers (29-23 overall, 26-16 RMAC) exploded offensively in Game One, burying the Grizzlies (11-38 overall, 8-30 RMAC) in hits, 13-6.
Game One | How It Happened: With two walks, a triple, and an inside-the-park home run from freshman Olivia Wick, the Rangers had more than enough momentum to defeat the Grizzlies.
Four singles in the top of the fourth inning also helped the Rangers explode for a six-run top of the fourth. By the time the first four innings were over, the Rangers held a healthy 6-0 lead over Adams State.
In the top of the sixth, freshman outfielder Sienna Reed kept things going with a triple of her own out to right field to earn her 28th RBI of the year.
The Grizzlies tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring on an error, but the one run was all they were allowed.
Game Notes:
- 13 hits was the most in a single game for the Rangers since Game Two against Colorado Mesa on April 16
- 3 walks for Rachel Williams was the most since April 8 against New Mexico Highlands
- Sophomore Kylie Harpman finished with nine strikeouts
Game Two | How It Happened: A home run in the top of the seventh from senior infielder Shayelyn Allen erased the zero on the board for the Rangers, but Regis' bats were unusually quiet in Game Two.
The Grizzlies were able to put five runs on the board to secure their first win of the day, and the split between the two teams.
Up Next: The Rangers close out their regular season slate with their final two games against Adams State on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 A.M (MT).
