LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team headed out west to open their 2023 season, starting with a game against California State University Los Angeles on Thursday.
The Rangers (0-1 overall) took on the Golden Eagles in a game of back and forth offensive attack, but ultimately fell to CSU Los Angeles, 1-0.
"Of course we want the better outcome, but it was a really strong performance against a tough Los Angeles team," said Regis Head Coach, Taylor Diem.
How It Happened
Regis finished the first half even with the Golden Eagles in shots on goal with two, but were unable to find the back of the net despite a number of chances from the box.
Junior goalkeeper Greg Squire helped the Rangers keep up with its opponent with six saves on the night, including two back-to-back diving saves within 15 seconds of each other in the second half.Â
"This was one of those games where the ball just didn't go our way. I thought it was a really back and forth game and we definitely had the chances to come away with a point," Diem said.Â
