Rangers wrap up home stand against Cal Poly Pomona

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team closed out their opening weekend home stand on Sunday against California Polytechnic University Pomona.

The Rangers (1-2-1 overall) held the Broncos (2-0-2 overall) to a 1-0 goal difference through the end of the first half, but were unable to hold and lost, 3-0.

"I thought we created enough chances to get some kind of result out of today, but we just weren't clinical enough in the final third with our chances," said Regis men's soccer head coach, Taylor Diem.

How It Happened: The Rangers' back line held it down in the first 45 minutes as the Broncos mustered a total of 12 shots on a total of 15 minutes of possession, but only two of those 12 were on target.

"We were able to keep the ball higher and generate more chances out of the game," said Diem. "We wanted to put a few of those away and get back into a position to take control.

In the back half of the match, Regis created a number of better scoring chances but were unlucky in putting one away.

An untimely collision gave the Broncos an uncontested goal in the 85th minute to make it 2-0 while the third goal for the Broncos came from a penalty kick in the 86th minute.

Game Notes:

Up Next: The Rangers head back west to take on Seattle Pacific University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.

"Another tough weekend. The conversation with the team in the beginning of the season was that this is going to be one of the toughest non-conference schedules this program's ever played. We've done well through the first four, but it's going to be a challenge playing Seattle Pacific next weekend."
