Trio of Rangers score in 3-1 road win over Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Behind a potent and balanced attack, the Regis University women's soccer team rattled off its sixth straight victory with a 3-1 road win over Westminster College on Friday.

Regis (7-2 overall, 3-0 RMAC) produced 17 shots and had three different goal scorers, while sophomore goalkeeper Grace Glover and freshman Kayla Arucan combined to swat away 10 saves to help seal the second straight road win for the Rangers on their current five-game road swing.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers would strike first in the 22nd minute as junior defenseman Alyssa Granno threaded a pass up the right sideline for junior forward Sarah Wynn, who won the race to the ball, cut inside and drilled a shot past a diving keeper to put Regis on the scoreboard.

For Wynn, the goal was her fourth of the 2023 season while the assist for Granno was her first point as a Ranger since transferring in this fall from Sierra College.

Regis wouldn't have to wait long to pad the lead as, at the 26:11 mark, junior defenseman Madison Cullinan netted her first goal of the season.

Taking a free kick 40-yards out and near the left sideline, Cullinan put a bullet on frame that knuckled its way past the Westminster goalkeeper to give the Rangers a 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.

The Rangers would put the game away early in the second half as junior forward Stella Straubing pounced on a Westminster turnover and found forward Kelby Kuo in the center of the box for a head that gave Regis a commanding 3-0 lead in the 48th minute.

After facing relentless pressure with the Griffins in catchup mode in the second half, Westminster was able to get on the scoreboard in the 83rd minute, but were unable to inch any closer as the Rangers tightened the screws on the 3-1 final.

Glover, making her third start of the fall, moved to a spotless 3-0 and stopped all four shots she faced in the first half. Arucan would come on in relief in the second half and stop six of the seven shots put on net by the pressing Griffins.

UP NEXT
Regis will head back to Colorado and get ready for another crucial road matchup Sunday against No. 20 ranked Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday in Golden.
