Trio of Rangers scoring in double-figures, but red-hot Roadrunners hold on for 75-59 final

DENVER, Colo. — Squaring off just down the road against crosstown rival Metropolitan State University of Denver, the Regis University men's basketball team got off to a strong start on Saturday, but were unable to slow down the red-hot Roadrunners in the second half, falling by a 75-59 final inside the Auraria Event Center.

With the loss, the Rangers slipped to 8-9 overall and 5-6 inside the RMAC while the win propelled the Roadrunners (11-5 overall, 5-5 RMAC) up to fifth place in the conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis controlled much of the opening 20 minutes as the Rangers built an eight-point lead on three separate occasions, the latest coming at 22-14 with 5:21 remaining on a mid-range jumper cashed in by redshirt junior guard Eddy Egun.

Egun would lead a trio of Regis players in double-figures with 16 points, while sophomore guard Chase Mayo Harmon poured in 10 of his 13 points in the first half and freshman Jalen Brown added 12 points off the bench.

Regis would carry a 29-27 lead into the halftime locker rooms, limiting the MSU Denver offense to a pedestrian 33 percent shooting (9-for-27).

Unfortunately for the Rangers, the script would flip in the second half as the Roadrunners were an unconscious 19-for-25 (76%) from the field over the final 20 minutes.

MSU Denver opened the second half on a 16-3 run to turn the 29-27 deficit into a 43-32 lead by the 14:18 mark.

Regis was unable to inch any closer than seven points the rest of the way as the Roadrunners' shot making halted any potential Rangers' run en route to the 75-59 final.

GAME NOTES
  • Regis won the turnover battle, 18-13.
  • MSU Denver outscored the Rangers, 44-26, in the paint.
  • Both teams struggled from 3-point range on Saturday as the Rangers finished 6-for-30 (20%) and MSU Denver concluded the evening 5-for-15 (33%).
  • Graduate student forward Tarig Eisa led all Regis players with seven rebounds.
