PUEBLO, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Soccer team secured their third straight win on Thursday night, defeating Colorado State University-Pueblo 1-0 on the road. The Rangers improve to 5-6-2 (4-3-1 RMAC), while the Thunderwolves fall to 2-7-3 (1-4-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Natalie Bunch started the match with a shot on goal in the fifth minute, saved by CSUP goalie Elaina Leitner. It took over 10 minutes for the next shot, an off-target attempt by Elsa Nolen. RU's keeper Grace Glover earned her first save of the match at 27:33 on Pueblo's first try of the game. Each team would only manage one more shot before the break, with neither on goal.
The Thunderwolves brought the pressure to start the second half, with four early shots, including two on target. Brooke Castillo returned the favor with a goal, assisted by Stella Straubing at 55:11. Gardner added a shot on goal five minutes later, followed by a 15 minute drought with no shots by either squad. Bunch ended that at 78:43 with an on-target try, and Glover earned two more saves before the end of the match, securing the clean sheet.
"Tough game on the road against physical opponent," commented Head Coach Jeff Frykholm following the match. "I was proud of the way the players fought and scraped for a really big three points on the road."
