Rangers Extend Winning Streak to Eight with Win over Westminster

Denver, Colo. -- The Regis University women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to eight games Friday night, beating Westminster University 3-2 (24-26, 25-12, 25-20, 21-25, 15-9). The Rangers improve to 10-7 (6-1 RMAC), while the Griffins fall to an even 8-8 (4-3 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rangers dropped the opening set 26-24 but responded quickly, reclaiming momentum in the match.

"Our team does a really good job of understanding why those things happen and making adjustments later and did a good job in the second set to combat that" head coach Joel List said.

The Rangers found their groove in the second set behind a steady defensive effort. Giselle Cazares tied her season-high 14 digs, Krissy Brei set a season-high with 17 digs, and defensive specialist Bre Skala added 23. The Rangers took the second and third sets 25-12 and 25-20.

"I think it was very hard at the beginning trying to read, but our block did slow a lot of balls down so it made it easier to read the balls on the other side. They made it very easy on me," Cazares said of the team's defensive effort.

The Griffins forced the Rangers into a rubber match, winning 21-25 in the fourth set. Westminster's Emma Reardon paced the match with four aces, the only Griffin to lead in a significant individual statistical category.

The Rangers continued their impressive attacking command. Setter Reagan Hickey made 53 assists, drilled into Griffin territory largely by Halle Theis, who totaled 23 kills and 26.5 points. Bryn McNair added 13 kills.

Braiziah Dixon dominated the net with 7.5 blocks. Dixon ranks fifth in the RMAC in blocks behind fellow Ranger Amelia Davis, who takes first on the leaderboard. Dixon ranks first in the RMAC in hitting percentage and had 12 kills and 19.5 points in Friday's win.

The Rangers took the fifth set 15-9 to close out the match.
GAME NOTES

Regis posted a team hitting percentage of 0.313, nearly doubling Westminster's 0.160.

The Rangers had 16 total blocks to the Griffins' 6.

The Rangers tripled the Griffins' 6 assisted blocks with 24 total.
