The Rangers Battle to a Tense 1-1 Draw in Thrilling Match

DURANGO, Colo. -- The Regis University women's soccer team drew against Fort Lewis College 1-1 in a Sunday afternoon match-up. The Rangers move to 5-8-3 (4-4-2 RMAC), while the Skyhawks move to 7-4-3 (4-3-2 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first half of the match between Regis and Fort Lewis, both teams battled for control, with several opportunities created on each side. Fort Lewis tested Regis goalkeeper Grace Glover multiple times, but she made key saves to keep the score level. In the 20th minute, the Rangers had a shot on goal from Stella Straubing. Sarah Wynn fired a shot in the next five minutes, but the Skyhawks made the save. The pivotal moment came in the 44th minute when the Skyhawks scored a goal, bouncing the ball over Glover's head and giving Fort Lewis a 1-0 lead.

In the second half of the match, Regis made a strong push to equalize against Fort Lewis, culminating in a goal from Brooke Castillo in the 66th minute. Castillo capitalized on a mispositioned goalkeeper, slotting the ball into the corner to level the score at 1-1. Both teams continued creating opportunities but could not find the back of the net. The Rangers tried to capitalize when the Skyhawks suffered a yellow card, but the match concluded in a draw.

"I am really proud of the way the team played today," saif Heah Coach Jeff Frykholm. "They executed the plan, they played with conviction, they did it together. It's disappointing to only end up with a tie but there is a lot to be happy with given their performance today"
