Rangers and Griffins Draw 0-0 in Defensive Battle

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Soccer team hosted Westminster University (Utah) on Friday night recording a draw, 0-0. The Rangers now hold a 2-5-2 (1-1-1 RMAC) record, while the Griffins sit at 4-1-2 (2-0-1 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

WU took the first shot of the match, an on-target attempt in the third minute that was saved by Grace Glover. Madeline Gardner took the first Ranger shot of the game three minutes later. Following three more shots by Westminster, one saved by Glover, Natalie Bunch took a shot of her own. Glover had one more save before the half expired, and the teams went into the break tied, 0-0.

The Griffins took three shots early in the second, with none being on-goal. Cristina Ciofani recorded a try in the 74th minute, and after three more shots from WU, Madison Cullinan landed one on goal, a header off a corner kick that was saved, ending the game, 0-0.

"That was a real defensive battle, and I'm really proud of the second half in particular," said Head Coach Jeff Frykholm. "They kinda took it to us in the first, but we made some adjustments at halftime that worked well. There were some great individual efforts."

"They did outshoot us, but we were able to keep them pretty far away, so they weren't too threatening," continued Frykholm. "Overall it was a good game defensively, we just have to work on how we are going to be a bit more threatening on offense ourselves."
