DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Cross Country and Track and Field teams have a lot to look forward to coming into the 2024-25 seasons. New teams, new facilities, and a new coach highlight a new era in Rangers Athletics.
Willie Moore takes over the teams in the inaugural season of Regis Men's and Women's Track and Field following five years at his alma mater, UCCS, and one year at Division I Colgate University (N.Y.).
Regis Athletics has finalized a partnership with Five Star Stadium in Thorton, CO, allowing the Rangers to train at one of the best Track and Field facilities in the Denver area. Five Star Stadium has a capacity of 7,500 fans, there is a grass practice field at the west end of stadium which also holds discuss, internally there is a shot-put ring, long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault. In 2002, the press box, concessions and restrooms were renovated. The two-story press box serves home and visiting coaching staff, announcer and scorekeepers, media and film crews. The stadium is fully equipped with a sound system and wireless mics. The stadium features home, and away concession stands, and the locker rooms overlook the field.
"Adams 12 Five Star Schools welcomes the Regis University Rangers Cross Country and Track and Field teams to the Five Star Stadium and are excited that they will using it as their home facility."
"We are truly fortunate to have these facilities," said Coach Moore, "we are very grateful for the work that the entire department has put toward these teams, and it has already started to show, with great performances at our first couple cross country meets."
The teams have also seen massive improvements to their training facilities over last year. In the Regis Fieldhouse, the former racquet ball courts have been redesigned and renovated as the Rangers Indoor Cardio Room. The room features 12 Kaiser M3 Spin Bikes, 2 Life Fitness Ellipticals, 3 Woodway Treadmills, 55" Smart TV, Gym Mirrors, Rubber and Turf Flooring and Disco lighting, offering a safe and fun training area to the athletes year-round.
"It means a lot to the team to see the support from the department and the university," said a senior on the women's cross-country team, Abigail Blanner. "It kind of felt that we were at a stalemate in terms of our training and progress, but with these new resources, it's groundbreaking to our progress and our success in the long run."
The program is also excited about the renovations and new builds for new locker rooms for both the men's and women's programs. All facility renovations and buildings were funded through inner department sweat equity efforts, and labor from the entire administrative staff.
"The new facilities are amazing, but even the small things mean a lot to us," added graduate student Aaron Bennett. "We got couches in the locker rooms. That's awesome!
"We are deeply grateful for the 5-star stadium partnership!" said Athletic Director Tommy Gilhooly. "We are getting access to a multi-million-dollar facility for pennies on the dollar that will allow us to host not only best in class training, but also national level events. The locker room and cardio room renovations/builds was a department wide community lift! So thankful for everyone this summer who volunteered to make this a reality. Go rangers!!"
