DENVER, Colo. -- The Regis University men's soccer team fell to #17 Fort Lewis College (Colorado) 0-3 in the RMAC semi-final hosted by Regis Wednesday night, marking the conclusion of the Rangers' 2024 RMAC run. The Rangers now sit at 7-3-9 (6-0-4 RMAC), while the Skyhawks advance to the RMAC championship at Colorado State University-Pueblo on Saturday with a 12-3-6 (7-2-1 RMAC) record.
Regis was the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament, while Fort Lewis is No. 3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis's Elias Taubo took the first shot of the game, but the Skyhawks were quick to score as Anton Hjalmarsson netted the team's first goal in the thirteenth minute. Taubo and Liam Corr led all Rangers in scoring in the 2024 season with 22 points each.
Moments later, the Regis turf fields lost power. After an hour-long delay, the stadium lights flashed back on, and the match resumed.
Hjalmarsson scored Fort Lewis's second goal at 25:53. The Skyhawks struck again in short order, scoring the third and final goal of the game less than two minutes later.
The scoreboard read 0-3 in favor of the Skyhawks at the beginning of the second half. The Rangers battled for the duration of the game but were unable to narrow the Skyhawks' lead.
The Rangers finished second overall in RMAC regular season competition.
GAME NOTES
· Fort Lewis took eight shots on goal compared to Regis's four.
· Regis took 11 corner kicks, while Fort Lewis took three.
· The two teams took a comparable number of shots, with Fort Lewis taking 14 and Regis taking 16.
SEASON NOTES
· Taubo also led the Rangers in assists with eight.
· As a team, Regis scored 36 goals and conceded 25 to their opponents. The Rangers also had 34 total assists to their opponents' 19.
· Goalkeeper Greg Squire started in all 19 games for the Rangers, making 52 saves and recording a 0.693 save percentage on the season.
· 10 Rangers scored goals and 13 recorded assists throughout the season.
