RICHARDSON, Texas – The Regis University Men's Basketball team lost to the University of Texas at Dallas on Friday night, 86-71. The Rangers fall to 1-2, while the Comets improve to 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ty Cox would score the first basket of the match, a layup assisted by Kobe Sanders. The Comets responded, going up 10-2 before Chi Achara ended the run with a layup. UTD extended their lead to 22-11before Achara converted an and-one layup. Eddy Egun scored four straight, and a Jalen Brown steal led to a fast break layup, bringing the score to 22-31 with 8:24 in the half. RU followed that with three-pointers from Egun and Chase Mayo Harmon. The duo would hit another pair of triples before the end of the half, bringing the score to 42-45 going into the break.
Regis took the lead early in the second behind an Achara jumper and Egun dunk. Mayo Harmon hit four straight form the free throw line, and converted an and-one as the teams traded small leads. However, Dallas began to slowly pull away, despite four more points from Egun. At 4:46, the Comets extended their lead back to double-digits, 75-64. Brown scored on a couple late layups, but the Rangers fell, 86-71.
"The road is a great test for teams," said Head Coach Brady Bergeson. "We are learning what travels and what doesn't. Tonight we let shooters get free too many times. And our execution dropped off late in the game. We will need to learn and respond quickly."
