DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball team traveled to Metropolitan State University of Denver (Colo.) on Friday night for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. Regis fell to Metro, 3-0 (22-25, 9-25, 23-25). The Rangers fall to 14-14 (9-5 RMAC) while the Roadrunners improve to 26-2 (14-0 RMAC).
Metro State advances to the RMAC Championship Match on Saturday at 4 pm, hosted by MSUD.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Amelia Davis recorded the first point of the match for the Rangers with an early kill. The teams would trade leads, neither going up by more than three throughout the set, with RU being led by kills from Davis, Halle Theis, and Lindsey Cure. Davis and Theis also assisted a block, but after Regis took the 22-19 lead, Metro score the final six points of the match for the 25-22 win.
The Roadrunners would continue that momentum into the second set, building a dominant 19-3 lead, with Theis supplying the points for the Rangers. While Davis added a few late kills, MSUD's lead was too great, as they won, 25-9.
The Rangers rebounded in the third, going up 9-3 with the help of a Krissy Brei service ace and Davis solo block. Theis added an ace as well, while Cure's kill brought the score to 15-10. However, the Roadrunners were able to chip away at the lead, tying the score at 19-19. Following a Braiziah Dixon kill, Metro took the lead, and late kills from Cure and Bryn McNair were not enough, and MSUD completed the sweep, 25-23.
"It's never easy to see a tournament run end that way," said Head Coach Joel List. "The second set was particularly rough, but I turned to our senior leadership, and we bounced back in that third set. That shows the resilience this group has."
"Our message to the team this year has been love each other and have fun," added Senior Captains Bre Skala and Halle Theis. "We needed the energy that we've been playing with all year. It came back in the final set, and it showed."
GAME NOTES
Davis led the Rangers with 11 kills, and Theis added seven.
